JUBILATION

I'm inspired to be a better person. To be patriotic - a word that until now has had a sour taste.

YES

WE

CAN!!!!!!

We have waited so long, and worked so hard for this day--and it is now not only a reality, but a milestone in the history of the United States. My phone has not stopped ringing since last night. Many of my friends who live abroad called, instead of emailing or texting, because they were so excited for our country. This, from my friend, Erica, in Spain---sums up the feelings of friends in Canada, Europe and Asia:

"It was not only the Americans who had a lot riding on this election. The entire world had a stake in this, too. During the roller coaster ride of this campaign season, the whole world has been sitting on the edge of its seat---holding its breath. We were glued to our televisions and Blackberries, and when the announcement came--there was a moment when the world made a collective sigh of relief before jumping with jubilation and dancing in celebration. Thank God, thank God! Congratulations, President Obama! Congratulations, America!"

Thanks, Daina! It's truly amazing. I'm so grateful to be here and experience it all. It still seems surreal...
